Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Tour

Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Walking Tour

In something that I hope will become an October tradition, I’m going to be leading another cemetery walking tour, this time of Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in the North Ward.

Mt. Pleasant is one of Newark’s two elite, Victorian Era Cemeteries. Except for the German-extraction Beer Barons, all of Newark’s 19th century elite lies interred in Mt. Pleasant. Come visit the Ballantines, the Kinneys, McCarters, Edward Weston, Frederick Frelinghuysen, Marcus Ward, Seth Boyden, John Fairfield Dryden, Franklin Murphy, Thomas B. Peddie, Charles Cummings and more in this cemetery where every family has a street named after it and every grave touching or artistic.

The tour will meet at the front gates of the cemetery at 12:15 Sunday, October 5th. Parking is not available within the cemetery itself, but there is parking on the surrounding streets.

The cost is $10 for first-time attendees. Since I want people to keep coming back, people who have already attended a tour do not need to pay, though I will accept a “donation.”
